More than 1,200 people took part on Tuesday night in a demonstration against the closure of the Nissan plant in Barcelona, which will leave 3,000 workers unemployed.
Demonstrators marched and chanted slogans, lit candles and fireworks. Then they burn a coffin with a dummy representing one of the company's directors.
«Nissan workers will fight to try to reverse the situation. We will fight in the streets of Barcelona and wherever necessary,» said Daniel, a protester.
Another person at the demonstration said the plant closure was only an attempt to «relocate» the company abroad.
Nissan workers have been on strike since May 4 to reject the industry's strategic plan to close the Barcelona plant and lay off 3,000 workers.
According to local reports, between 15,000 and 20,000 people who depended on Nissan indirectly will be affected by the plant closure.
Globally, the scheme involves the reduction of 20,000 employees worldwide, 15 percent of the company's total labour force.
