Spain: «No dialogue is possible outside legality» — Spanish govt. orders Catalonia to obey Constitution

The Spanish government gave a press conference after a cabinet meeting in Madrid on Friday, in which the Catalan government was called to engage in dialogue. In a declaration made by Spanish government spokesperson Inigo Mendez de Vigo, Catalan governors, accused of straying out of legality, were summoned to «return to legality» by placing themselves in the constitutional order of Spain. De Vigo... Еще called on dialogue to return to Catalonia and the Catalan parliament, seen as having suffered a «breach». As well as addressing the Catalan parliament, a new decree for Catalan companies to move inside Spain was presented. The new decree was explained by Spanish Economy Minister Luis de Guindos as establishing the decisional power of boards of directors in transferring the registered address of a company inside Spain, with the exception of companies unable to have shareholders’ meeting as stated in its statutes. Friday's press conference came amid the decision of some leading Catalan firms to move their registered offices out of Catalonia as the region is set to declare independence unilaterally. Following the annoucnemnt Spanish bank Caixabank officially registered its office outside Catalonia. Catalonia held a referendum on October 1 to decide on the region's independence, however the Spanish government deemed the action 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional'. At least 893 people and 33 police officers were reportedly injured in violent confrontations between voters and Spanish civil police who attempted to stop Catalans from voting at polling stations.
