Spain: Nissan workers protest Barcelona factory closure during Madrid demo

Hundreds of Nissan workers protested in Madrid on Wednesday, against the closure of the factory in Barcelona, and demanded the repeal of article 51 of the Workers' Statute, which makes layoffs easier. Demonstrators were seen dressed up in red and wearing masks of the famous TV series “Money Heist,” as they marched through Spain’s capital city whilst chanting and holding banners. According to reports, protesters gathered around Atocha station before making their way towards a heavily police protected Congress of Deputies. Several protests have been taking place in the country since the company announced their decision to cease operations in Barcelona, where around 2,500 people will be directly left unemployed, with an estimated number of around 20,000 workers from suppliers and subcontractors of the automobile industry also expected to suffer from the hit.
