The Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms began running a sports centre as a hospital dedicated to temporary fruit picking workers who tested positive for COVID-19, in Torres de Segre, Lleida on Wednesday .
The patient admission area, showers and dining rooms of the field hospital located in the sports centre that can receive up to 36 people can be seen in the footage.
«The objective of this pavilion is to shelter the seasonal workers of the fruit season, the ones who tested positive [for COVID-19],» said Joan Carles Miro, mayor of Torres de Segre.
Albert Mayordomo, the COVID-19 coordinator of Open Arms in Lleida, explained that «we are applying exactly the same methodology that we were implementing on the boat, because it is the same type of services but with a much larger space.»
This Wednesday, Torres de Segre, along with six other municipalities, including the city of Lleida, had to reintroduce restrictive measures to stop an increase in cases of coronavirus infections in recent days.
