Spain: Nationalist activists gather 80,000 signatures in support of Spanish police

The Spanish Catholic organisation handed over roughly 80,000 signatures of Spanish citizens in support of Spain’s two main domestic security forces, the Civil Guard and National Police, for their conduct during the Catalan independence referendum. Members of the organisation visited the headquarters of both units in Madrid to deliver the signatures. «We wanted to show... Еще solidarity in a situation of harassment, insults and aggression from radical secessionists in Catalonia,» said spokesperson Ignacio Arsuaga upon delivering the signatures. «We wanted to show them that there are many Spaniards, and also Catalans, who are grateful for the work that they are doing in defence of the Constitution, the laws, the democracy and the unity of Spain.» Catalonia held a referendum on October 1 to decide on the region's independence, with the Spanish government deeming the action 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional.' At least 893 people and 33 police officers were reportedly injured in violent confrontations between voters and Spanish police.
