Spain: More law enforcement headed for Catalonia says govt minister

The Spanish government will reinforce their law enforcement deployments in Catalonia, said Spanish Minister of Education, Culture and Sport Inigo Mendez de Vigo at a press conference in Madrid, Friday. «Considering the riotous mobilisations — ones I referred to previously — the government by virtue of the powers vested in article 38.2 of law 2/1986 from March 13, decided to relocate to Catalonia... Еще many units to reinforce the state's security forces that already operate in that autonomous community,» he said. Mendez de Vigo vowed the «illegal» Catalan independence referendum would not take place, as «it has no democratic guarantees. All European authorities say so, every day: the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament, the Presidents or Prime Ministers of the big European parties.» «Nobody is above or besides the law, all of us are responsible for our actions. And whoever breaks the law has to deal with the consequences. This government will defend the constitutional principle of national sovereignty,» he added.
