Answering the call of the Andalusian territorial platform #RegularizacionYa (Regularisation Now), hundreds of undocumented migrant crop pickers took to the streets of Almeria in Andalusia on Sunday demanding for their immigration status to be regularised.
Demonstrators were seen chanting, waving flags and holding signs reading «Papers for everyone» and «Native or foreign, it is the same working class.»
«I live in a shanty, a shanty. I can't feel fine. That is nothing, do you understand? I'm supposed to get papers, as soon as I get work to do. Do you understand? That's my problem. Yeah, this is my problem now. So you people are supposed to help us,» said one of the protesters.
According to reports, several demonstrations have been taking place across different Andalusian provinces, demanding the regularisation of the immigration status of refugees and immigrants, whose jobs in Spain’s agricultural sector was essential to keep up the flow of fruits and vegetables during the coronavirus pandemic.
