Residents of Madrid's Malasaña neighbourhood took to their balconies to party together on Thursday, forced to find a new way to celebrate together after Madrid City Council banned all public festivals until October amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Footage shows residents celebrating the first day of the local festivities, with many dressing up and dancing on the balconies of their apartments. Some... Еще attended the neighbourhood party from the street, being careful to keep the recommended social distance from each other.
«We might think, we would forget [these celebrations] because of a global pandemic, which didn't allow us to leave our homes. But the reality is that we won't forget about these festivities, because these are the festivities of our neighborhood. The old neighborhood of wonders. And between all of us, we have shown why this neighborhood is still worthy of this name. In our neighborhood, love has triumphed,» said one of the residents through a microphone.
The «Haciendo Barrio» festival in Malasaña consists of a series of artistic and cultural activities that will take place from residents' balconies until 2 May, alongside being broadcast on various social media channels. Both May 1st and May 2nd are celebrated as public holidays in the Madrid area.
