Temperatures in Spain and Portugal are expected to come close to and possibly break Europe’s record of 48C (188F) set in Athens in July 1977. Temperatures in areas of Portugal’s southern Alentejo region reached 45C (113F) on Friday. The Alentejo town of Beja expected to see a peak of 47C (116F) on Saturday. The recent summer, according to reports, might end up to be the hottest ever on the European continent.
