Spain: Madrid labels Puigdemont as outlaw moments after he accuses King of being govt. mouthpiece

Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said Catalan President Carles Puigdemont has “long been living outside the law” only moments after he accused the King of assuming the role as the government’s mouthpiece, in Madrid on Wednesday. The Deputy Prime Minister decried each of Catalan President Carles Puigdemont's statements as «a renewed unrest and a trip to nowhere», adding... Еще that «outside the law there is no democracy, outside the law there is no coexistence, outside the law there are no rights and Mr. Puigdemont has been long living outside the law, away from reality and reason.» «It is comforting for all democrats that both the King, the European institutions and the Spanish institutions are calling for lawfulness and common sense», Saenz de Santamaria said. Catalonia held a referendum on October 1 to decide on the region's independence, however the Spanish government deemed the action 'illegal' and 'unconstitutional'. At least 893 people and 33 police officers were reportedly injured in violent confrontations between voters and Spanish police who attempted to stop Catalans from voting at polling stations.
