The judge of the Spanish National Court, Carmen Lamela, remanded former Catalan government Vice-president Oriol Junqueras and seven former Generalitat members in custody in Madrid on Thursday. The former ministers are Jordi Turull, Raul Romeva, Josep Rull, Dolors Bassa, Meritxell Borras, Joaquim Forn and Carles Mundo. The judge charged Junqueras and the ministers with rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds. Outside of the National Court, lawyers of the defendants were united in calling the decree «disproportionate» and «unjust.» Jaume-Alonso Cuevillas, lawyer of former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, called the decree «a very serious error» that would help in solving «a political conflict.» Cuevillas stated that Puigdemont decided to «maintain operative a part of the government» from Belgium, to be «able to lead the process until new elections.» Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has called snap elections for December 21 to replace the Catalan Parliament. Puigdemont said he would respect the result and called on Madrid to do the same.
