The authorities of the Community of Madrid, together with members of the Emergency Military Unit (EMU), began working to prepare the Ice Palace in the Spanish capital to operate as a morgue for those who died from the coronavirus outbreak on Monday.
Footage shows the police cordoning off the Ice Palace area while EMU personnel and vans belonging to the military unit arrive at the site.
The Ice... Еще Palace in Madrid is a commercial area that has a recreational ice skating rink of 1,800 square meters. The place will serve as a morgue, since the funeral and mortuary services in Madrid are overcrowded due to the deaths of COVID-19.
Spain has recorded 33,089 positive cases of coronavirus throughout the country, in addition to 2,182 deaths, according to data provided by the Ministry of Health. Nationwide, 2,355 people remain in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Most of the cases of infection and deaths from COVID-19 are in the Community of Madrid, with 10,575 cases and 1,263 deaths.
