Spain: Hundreds occupy the streets of Barcelona to protest housing crisis

Hundreds of people occupied the streets of Barcelona on Saturday, moving beds, armchairs, and other furniture to make a ‘home’ in protest of the city’s housing crisis. «We have three demands, which are: the immediate expropriation of all houses owned by banks and real estate funds, the 50 per cent reduction of rental prices, and stop all the evictions in the city,» said Teresa, spokesperson for... Еще ‘Trae to casa’ (‘Bring your house’). «We are not leaving until they give us solutions for this housing crisis.» Housing became Barcelona’s residents’ main concern and overtook tourism for the first time in the city’s Municipal Services Survey in 2018, as rental and housing prices have been rising in Barcelona and throughout Spain in recent years.
