Spain: Franco's new resting place will not 'dignify' the dictator

The Spanish government has begun the process of exhuming and reburying the remains of dictator Francisco Franco, announced Spain's Minister of Justice Dolores Delgado at a press conference in Madrid on Friday. Franco is currently buried at the Valley of the Fallen, a monument built under Franco's four-decades-long regime to honour victims of the Spanish Civil War. The government decided to... Еще remove his remains from the monument «because the Valley of the Fallen is a symbol of dignity and memory,» said Delgado. The government also ruled out burying Franco at the the Almudena cathedral in Madrid, citing «public safety» and wanting to avoid a «shrine». They have asked Franco's family to inform them of where to rebury the body within 15 days.
