Catalans gathered in front of the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya in Barcelona, Saturday, where they reacted to the televised address Catalan President Carles Puigdemont gave earlier, where he denounced Madrid's steps towards direct rule via the implementation of Article 155. «I think it was fair. He made a summary of what's happening. He was specific with Catalans also with Spanish people... Еще and with Europeans as well,» Lola, a supporter of the independence movement said. Artur, A Barcelona resident, commented on the address saying it was «very positive compared to what the Spanish government said.» «The president is another man like everybody here, and I'm sure he has the same feeling of rage, impotence against this attack absolutely out of proportion of the Spanish State,» another pro-independence activist said. In his address, Puigdemont said the Rajoy government had proclaimed itself «illegitimately as representative of Catalan will,» and of «disrespecting the popular will» in forbidding the Catalan parliament from having a decisive say in the next regional elections. Rajoy's government has been accused of answering Catalan dialogue requests with either «silence or repression.» Earlier on Saturday, Rajoy announced the enactment of Article 155 of the Spanish constitution, which imposes direct rule of Madrid on Catalonia, and the destitution of main Catalan government figures, including Puigdemont.
