The defense team of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused the government of Ecuador of giving false reasons for why they ended Assange’s asylum, as said by the lead lawyer of the case, Baltasar Garzon, during an interview with journalists in Madrid on Thursday.
«The Government of Ecuador, and his president, specifically, did not tell the truth in the statement they gave. This is serious... Еще, because of their institutional position, and with full respect I have to the Ecuadorian people and their institutions, the arguments they gave for Julian Assange's expulsion, to the ending of the asylum, are not true,» he said.
The lawyer said that the threat against Julian Assange had political reasons behind it.
«The politically motivated threat against Julian Assange, the persecution from the United States is more active now than ever. Recently Wikileaks has been called a terrorist organization,» said Garzon.
Speaking about the allegations that Russia could be involved in the Assange case, the lawyer denied any involvement.
“Russia has not anything to do with Julian Assange. I am definitely sure about this, I could add 'as far as I know', but it does not exist, it does not exist because it has nothing to do. Julian Assange was focused in his profession as a journalist»
