Spain: Deputy PM accuses Catalan government of acting like a 'dictatorship'

The Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said that the Catalan parliament acts as if it were a 'dictatorship' after a debate on an independence referendum, Wednesday. The Spanish government has been staunchly rejecting attempts to push through a referendum for October 1st and responded to a debate which sought to set out a legal framework for independence on Wednesday. «I... Еще don't think I have ever been so democratically embarrassed and ashamed in all my political life,» said Santamaria. «It's shameful, it's degrading. To see deputies with no right to express their votes. To defend their ideas. To defend democracy. The Catalan government demonstrated who is behind parliamentary institutions and that they are more like a dictatorship than a democracy.»
