A group of Catalan independence supporters blocked Girona's major AP-7 motorway on Tuesday following the arrest of former Catalan President Carles Puidgemont. Protesters placed a barricade on the road with banners calling for the establishment of a ‘Catalan Republic’ and ‘freedom of political prisoners’, in reference to the recent arrest of the deposed Catalan leader. The blockade took place... Еще at around 06:30am local time (04:30 GMT), on what is usually a busy road that connects the French border with the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Demonstrators also held blockades on other major roads across Catalonia. Puigdemont was detained while crossing the border between Denmark and Germany on Sunday, and was moved to the Neumuenster correctional facility. Puigdemont is facing up to 25 years in prison on charges of sedition, rebellion and misuse of public funds over his role in the push for the Catalan divorce from Spain.
