Covisetas, a t-shirt brand from Madrid featuring coronavirus PSA slogans, is donating all of its earnings to research into a cure for COVID-19, as seen in footage from Friday in the Spanish capital.
«Well, Covisetas [portmanteau of 'covid' and the Spanish word for 't-shirt'] is really an opportunistic name. What we want to do is take advantage of this moment and the anxiety around COVID,» said Pablo Saracho, one of the founders of Pepines, the platform behind Covisetas. «At the end of the day we want to convert that in the long term into research which will bring more definitive solutions.»
According to Saracho, outside of the t-shirts' production costs, logistical costs and possible banking fees, all income from Covisetas will go directly to the team looking for a cure for COVID at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
«It's really sad that we have such good researchers and such insufficient investment,» said the investor.
Spain is one of the hardest-hit countries in Europe by the coronavirus pandemic. The country has over 242.700 confirmed cases and 27,136 deaths according to Johns Hopkins University.
