Dozens of business people from the catering and tourism sectors demonstrated in Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid on Wednesday to demand aid programmes from the government in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
The protesters carried banners with messages such as 'save the catering sector,' in an attempt to give visibility to the situation that the catering sector is going through, and what they consider to be a lack of support from the government.
“What we demand is that the sector is not criminalised, it is a sector that did not cause the transmission of the virus, but quite the opposite. From the first moment we have provided a safe space for all customers and workers, and an incomparable incompetence is being poured onto the sector,» said Cristina Miranda, manager of the Provincial Association of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of Castilla La Mancha
Spain has registered a total of 525,549 positive cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, and 29,516 related deaths.
