Pro-Catalan independence activists joined a mass rally in the neighbouring Valencia on Saturday, organised by local left wing groups to honour the victims of hate crimes. Demonstrators matched through Valencia with banners and flags, calling for the release of imprisoned pro-Catalan independence leaders. Some Spanish nationalists were also present to counter-protest. Marcel Mauri, spokesperson... Еще for the 'Omnium Cultural' pro-independence association stated: «We are here to thank the solidarity of many people of the Valencian Country, who have had with Omnium, with Jordi Cuixart, and with the people of Catalonia in these hard times and repression of our fundamental rights.» The rally takes place every year, to commemorate Guillem Agullo, who was a young Valencian active in left wing and independent organisations. He was killed on April 11, 1993 with many claiming it was a politically-motivated murder.
