Catalan President Quim Torra said that all separatist politicians jailed by Madrid after last year’s independence referendum should be set free, speaking in Barcelona in an interview aired on Friday on RT's The Alex Salmond Show. «The politicians [who] only wanted to let the Catalans vote are in prison now. There are people in exile as well. And there are thousands and thousands of Catalans... Еще being persecuted [and] investigated by Spanish police,» said Torra. The president said his government plans to carry on with the people's mandate, pointing out that in the last three elections the pro-independence parties won the elections in Catalonia. The Catalan leader added that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez now has «to demonstrate not only to Catalans but [also], I think, to the world that things in Spain can be done in a different way than from a conservative party.» Torra was elected as the head of the Catalan government in May.
