Catalan President Quim Torra appeared before the High Court of Justice of Catalonia in Barcelona on Wednesday, after the public prosecutor filed a criminal lawsuit against him for refusing to remove pro-independence yellow ribbons from public buildings during Spain's election campaign.
Footage filmed on Wednesday shows the Catalan leader leaving court and being greeted by people who lined up the... Еще streets in solidarity with him.
Torra answered questions from Catalonia's top judges regarding his refusal to take down the yellow ribbons, deemed as «partisan» symbols, and later replacing them by other banners in favour of civil liberties.
He stated that he was committed to defend freedom of expression, adding he was ready to take responsibility for his decisions.
If found guilty, Torra might be fined or barred from public office.
