Spain: Catalan Parliament passes bill for October referendum despite Madrid's objections

Members of the Parliament of Catalonia voted, in Barcelona, on Wednesday, to pass a bill that would permit regional authorities to hold a referendum on Catalonia's secession from Spain, on October 1, despite Madrid's insistance that such a referendum would be invalid. Speaker of the Parliament of Catalonia Carme Forcadell announced the result, which saw 72 members vote for the bill, none... Еще against and 11 abstentions. In spite of this bill passing through the Catalan Parliament, the move is still protested by Madrid, which is seeking to block the referendum, due to be held in less than a month.
