Spain: Catalan parliament overwhelmingly approves independence declaration

The Catalan Parliament voted in favour of approving an independence declaration for the region in Barcelona, Friday. 70 representatives voted in favour, with ten against and two abstinences, with another handful of senators boycotting the vote altogether and leaving Spanish flags on their pews. Catalan President Carles Puigdemont cast the final of the 82 votes before the Speaker Carme Forcadell... Еще set about counting the result. She declared to a standing ovation from the parliament before some members started singing the Catalan national anthem and shouting 'Visca la Republica Catalana' ('Long live the Catalan Republic'). It follows the Spanish central government’s plans to invoke Article 155 which would impose direct rule by Madrid over Catalonia.
