The Muslim community of Barcelona staged a rally at Barcelona's Placa de Catalunya, Monday, to condemn last week's deadly attack in Barcelona, which have been claimed by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL). The rally later moved to the centre of La Rambla, where the makeshift memorial had been set up.

Spain suffered a twin attack on August 17 and 18, when a van ploughed into pedestrians in Las Ramblas in Barcelona, killing a total of 13 and injuring over 100. The attacker then fatally stabbed a driver bringing the death toll of the first attack to 14.
A second attack in the nearby coastal town of Cambrils left seven injured, after five attackers drove an Audi A3 into a group of pedestrians. Police fatally shot the five suspected assailants as they left the vehicle. The attackers were reportedly wearing fake-explosive belts.
