Spain: Barcelona locals react to Catalan independence declaration and Madrid direct rule

Barcelona locals shared mixed opinions on the Catalan crisis on Monday, the first working day after the regional government unilaterally declared independence and Madrid voted on implementing article 155 of the Spanish constitution in Catalonia. One independence supporter stated that building a “young, modern country” could “help all of Europe, even Spain.” Another local said what was... Еще happening in Catalonia was “not legal,” while another one underlined that “the entire population has not spoken” — a reference to the 40 percent of voters partaking in the contentious referendum of October 1. The Catalan government was dismissed by the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy under the implementation of Article 155 on Friday. On the same day, Spain’s attorney general announced the intention to prosecute former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont.
