Spain: At least one arrested at Barcelona 'take back the streets' rally

At least one protester was arrested by the Mossos d'Esquadra during a rally in Barcelona's Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia on Tuesday. The demonstration, dubbed «recuperem els carrers» (let's take back the streets), was held to protest authorities' management of the COVID-19 crisis. Footage shows the moment of the arrest of the woman, who police say refused to identify herself, as well as spitting... Еще and hitting officers. Police can also be seen checking the IDs of other protesters. The event, called for by the CUP, the Committees for the Defence of the Republic (CDR), and other organisations, began at eight o'clock in the evening and took place in six locations across the city. According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, several officers warned the protesters that they could not gather due to the state of alarm in place. Demonstrators say they kept the appropriate physical distance from each other during the rallies. Catalan interior minister, Miquel Buch, has demanded an end to the identification measures, adding that the protests were being carried out in accordance with mandatory health measures. According to the Ministry of Health, Catalonia has registered 55,825 cases of COVID-19 and 5,981 related deaths. In Spain, 232,037 cases and 27,778 deaths have been confirmed.
