Spain: Anti-referendum rally held in front of Catalan government building in Barcelona

Over 300 people rallied in front of the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya in Barcelona on Saturday, against Sunday's referendum. The protesters, who waved Spanish flags and shouted pro-Spanish slogans, insulted and harassed a number of independence supporters who were also present. The Spanish government has deemed the referendum, which is set to take place on 1 October, illegal. The Constitutional Court suspended the Catalan referendum law, following an appeal from the Spanish government. It will be suspended until the court reaches a decision.
