South Korean war veterans and authorities gathered to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War in Cheorwon county, on Thursday.
Veterans and the public rallied at the Baekmagoji Battle memorial, a famous battlefield site which lies close to the border with North Korea.
A historical re-enactment and a flower laying ceremony took place in the presence of the Gangwon province governor, Choi Moon-soon.
A veteran said that he did not expect to see a reunification between North Korea and South Korea during his lifetime. «I might only live four, five years more,» he added.
Participants were also required to respect social distancing measures, wear masks and sanitise their hands, as this year's commemoration was in limited attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Korean War took place between 25 June, 1950 and 27 July, 1953, between North Korea and South Korea.
