South Korea: Trump, Moon agree no military drills during Olympics

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to delay regular joint military exercises set to overlap with the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, South Korea’s Presidential office said on Thursday. In a press release, the White House confirmed the leaders agreed to «de-conflict the Olympics and our military exercises so that United States and Republic of Korea forces can focus on ensuring the security of the Games.» The agreement between Moon and Trump came a day after the divided Koreas reopened their dialogue channel at the joint security area of Panmunjom, in anticipation of resuming government-level talks for the first time since December 2015. The XXIII Olympic Winter Games is scheduled to take place from February 9 to 25 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
