South Korea: 'Pyeongchang Olympics kill us!' — local ski rental owners suffer from slow business

Ski equipment rental shops located around the Phoenix Snow Park in Pyeongchang claim to be struggling due to the lack of customers during the PyeongChang winter games period, footage filmed on Wednesday reveals. The dissatisfied shop owners erected a banner for spectators arriving to the Pheonix Snow Park, an Olympics venue for skiing and snowboarding events, which reads «2018 Pyeongchang... Еще Olympics kill us! Keep our right to live!». Some of the stores even decided to close up shop over the period, due to the lack of demand. «This business area is killed because nobody comes across here from the Snow Park. Tourists don't come here. They just come to watch the games and go back,» attested one shop owner. Rental shops survive all year long from the benefits they reap during the five-month winter season, but this year they are making very little income. The shop owners complained that the government hasn't offered anything in the way of compensation. «The government gives compensation only to the Snow Park. The Snow Park doesn't care about us and doesn't give us anything,» said one.
