South Korea: IOC panel presents analysis on excluded Russian athletes

Head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Invitation Review Panel, Valerie Fourneyron, presented an analysis on 15 of the 28 Russian athletes and coaches whose appeals were upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), during the 132nd session of the IOC in Pyeongchang on Tuesday. During the session, the IOC had announced that they would not be inviting the 15 Russian athletes... Еще and coaches in question to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Fourneyron stated that every case regarding the 15 athletes and coaches was «studied individually, rigorously and anonymously and all the decisions were taken by consensus.» Fourneyron also presented a recommendation that «50 trainers and 10 members of medical staff be excluded from the list of people considered for invitation.» «The recommendations that I have led with my panel have been a great moment of sadness, but it had to be done in order to strengthen the confidence that athletes can have in the fight against doping and I can promise you that the ITA [Independent Testing Authority] will do all the best it can to achieve this end,» Fourneyron added.
