South Korea: Former S. Korean Pres. Lee indicted for corruption

The Seoul Prosecutors' Office announced that former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has been indicted for corruption, at a press briefing in Seoul on Monday. According to Prosecutor at Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Han Dong-hoon, Lee «embezzled approximately 34.9 billion won [$33 million] from DAS [South Korean car parts manufacturer] through various ways, such as giving out... Еще falsified payments and using the company's official budget credit card for personal purposes.» Han also confirmed allegations about Lee's «tax evasion of about 3.1 billion won [$281,270]» and «bribes of approximately 700 million won [$654,290] for the state intelligence service and bribes of approximately 3.6 billion won [$2,804,100] from various businessmen for giving seats for official appointments.» The prosecutor said that «in this regard, it has been concluded that Lee caused a loss in the state budget.» Lee's indictment comes days after Lee's successor as president Park Geun-hye was jailed to 24 years for coercion and abuse of power.
