South Africa: Zuma refuses to resign despite ANC's earlier assertions to the contrary

South African President Jacob Zuma refused an order by the country's ruling African National Congress (ANC) to resign, when speaking to state television on Wednesday. Zuma's defiance appears to contradict ANC National Spokesperson Pule Mabe's earlier assertions that Zuma would not defy the party's move. Speaking from Johannesburg earlier in the day, Mabe stressed that «it was a positive message... Еще to hear President Jacob Zuma saying that he won't defy his party because he has led this party for years and years, and he remains the leader that we all respect.» The ANC spokesperson called the party's decision «a final determination,» adding that «this weekend members of the [National Executive Committee] NEC have been deployed to various regions and provinces in the republic to go and further convey the decision of the ANC on the recall of the president and take our structures into confidence.» Mabe also noted that «parliamentary processes are going to ensue» and that «there is an agreement there that there is going to be a parliamentary process taking place tomorrow.»
