Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said full denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula is not 100 percent guaranteed. He was speaking during a press conference following the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the BRICS in Pretoria, South Africa, on Monday. Lavrov welcomed any actions that «allow us to overcome confrontational tendencies and build conditions for the normalisation... Еще of relations and for movement towards full denuclearisation of the entire Korean Peninsula. However, he said that although he hoped the process does not fail “the chances are not 100.» The Russian foreign minister also stated that what is happening in relations between the two Koreas and between Pyongyang and Washington fits into the logic proposed in the joint Russian-Chinese roadmap. «It [the road map] involves a three-step movement, [the first stage is] the rejection of confrontational rhetoric. At the second stage, the normalisation of relations between all the main protagonists and at the third stage the collective, multilateral formulation of guarantees of peace and stability in Northeast Asia,» he said. In regards to the upcoming World Cup, which will be held in 11 Russian cities from June 14 to July 15, the minister said that «anyone can come even without any announcement. All the heads of state and government are invited and we expect a very good attendance.» Foreign ministers from BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) met in Pretoria on Monday to discuss topics including information security and the fight against global terrorism. The 10th BRICS Summit will take place on July 25-27 this year in Johannesburg.
