South Africa: Putin meets with Xi Jinping on BRICS sidelines

Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the second day of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg on Thursday. Earlier the Chinese leader said that he is opposed to tariff wars saying they will harm those who pursue them, adding that he supports openness in trade. The Russian president for his part praised the fact that «BRICS countries... Еще have created a pool of foreign exchange reserves» which have «become an important mechanism for ensuring operative financing of the banking sector of our countries.» The 10th annual BRICS meeting takes place in Johannesburg on July 25-27, where the heads of state or government of the five member states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) meet to discuss cooperation in political and socio-economic affairs.
