South Africa: EFF walk out of Parliament over election of new president

The left-wing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party walked out of the South African Parliament in Cape Town, Thursday, as members of parliament elected African National Congress (ANC) head Cyril Ramaphosa as President after Jacob Zuma's resignation. The EFF, which had sponsored a motion of no confidence in Zuma, stated that they would not take part in the election of a new president because they... Еще did «do not want to legitimise anyone» from the ruling ANC. Instead, the EFF have called for early elections. Leader of the EFF Julius Malema stated that «We don't know what's going to happen today. The outcomes of today will determine whether there will be Sona [State of the nation address] tomorrow,» before warning that «If they succeed in electing their illegitimate president through illegal means, it means tomorrow we will be here with them again.»
