Italian and Slovenian police forces launched joint border patrols at the crossing point between the two countries on Monday, as footage from the Slovenian town of Lipica near the Italian border shows. The collaboration aims at controlling and preventing illegal migration.
The joint patrols will be in force within 10 km (6.2 miles) of the countries' respective borders.
Slovenian Police... Еще spokesperson, Marian Stubljar, described the patrol as «useful, because it helps confront and act better on the issue of illegal passage of illegal migrants on this border.»
Vincenzo Avallone, director of the Italian border police in the Province of Udine, said that they «expect a lot of positive results» and added that they will «do a good service for our communities.»
The joint patrol will run until September of this year, after which it might be further extended.
Slovenian police reportedly detained some 5,300 illegal immigrants in the first six months of 2019.
