Rikard Gronborg's squad killed any intrigue with five to zero first-period goals, with just-arrived Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog scoring first in the match for his national team and bagging... Еще his first of the tournament during his very first outing.
His teammate Alexander Wennberg, Forward of Columbus Blue Jackets, who also scored in his first game of the tournament against Norway, could not say in the mixed zone following the game if scoring straight off the bat was a new tradition among newly-arriving forwards.
Forward Elias Pettersson, 21, who had an outstanding rookie season in the NHL with Vancouver Canucks and who has drawn much attention ahead of the World Championship, managed to contribute to his national team's victory with a goal and two assists. The Austrian team's Michael Raffl, forward at Philadelphia Fliers, scored his side's consolation goal.
After losing their opener at the 2019 IIHF World Championship to the Czech Republic, Sweden then won three straight games by a combined total of 26-2.
In their next match Sweden will play against Switzerland on May 18.
