The Russian national hockey team held a training session in Bratislava on Saturday as they gear up to play against Austria on Sunday, and defeating Norway 5:2 in their opening match at the 2019 World Championships against Norway.

12-13-year-old Russian hockey players from Vladivostok’s «Polyus-2006» junior team, who became winners of the Golden puck tournament in February we among those in attendance at the practice. After the training, the kids caught the players leaving the stadium and got autographs of Alexander Ovechkin, Nikita Kucherov, Eugeni Kuznetsov and many others. One of the kids even received a special gift — a hockey stick from team captain Ilya Kovalchuk.
Speaking to journalists after the practice, head coach Ilya Vorobyov praised the Austrian national team — Russia’s next opponents — for their performance in the pre-championship friendly match against Canada. Vorobyov also confirmed that Russia’s coaching staff had watched and studied Friday night’s match between their main rivals in Group B — Czech rep. and Sweden — which Milos Riha's squad won 5:2.
The 2019 IIHF World Championship kicked off in the two Slovakian cities of Bratislava and Kosice on Friday. Russia was drafted into Group B and will be playing its next matches in Bratislava against Austria (May 12), the Czech Republic (May 13), Italy (May 15), Latvia (May 18), Switzerland (May 19) and defending World Champions Sweden (May 21).
