Slovakia: Candlelit vigil for murdered journalist

Mourners held a candlelit vigil to commemorate investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiance Martina Kusnirova, in Bratislava on Tuesday. People with candles and photos of the pair in silent procession towards the Government Office of the Slovak Republic. He accused the Slovakian government of belonging to the mafia. “They want us just obediently be silent and vote and be silent and vote and be silent and vote.” Anna Remiasova, mother of Robert Remias who was murdered 21 years ago as an eye witness of kidnapping of a son of President Michal Kovac by secret police of the Slovak republic (SIS), also gave a short speech. “Please, support the young people who try to reveal those nasties and dirtiness which accumulated in this country,” she said. The engaged couple were murdered at home sometime between Thursday and Sunday last week. Kuciak had been working on links between ruling party Direction — Social Democracy (SMER) and mafia from Calabria, Italy.
