At least 45,000 people gathered in the centre of Bratislava on Thursday to demand a fair investigation into the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kusnirova, according to local media reports. People also called for the resignation of the Slovak police president Tibor Gaspar, accusing him of hampering the investigative process. «We ask for independent police... Еще supervision and the depoliticising of the selection procedure for choosing police chiefs,» said Juraj Seliga, a student and an organiser of the protest. Kuciak and Kusnirova were found dead on February 25. Kuciak had been investigating tax fraud allegedly committed by businessmen who were in contact with top Slovak officials, among other topics. The government of the newly elected Prime Minister of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini was created recently with some minor changes, and the demonstrators suspect government officials of being involved in organised crime, the misuse of donations from European Union and corruption.
