Groups of skiers took advantage of heavy snowfall at the alpine pass of Piccolo San Bernardo (Little St. Bernard Pass), which has been blocked for several weeks due to the extraordinary levels of snowfall. Italian and French authorities have been working for several weeks to reopen the alpine pass, between La Thuile in Italy and La Rosiere in France. With the pass still blocked, several skiers... Еще went for a spring ski session. Local resident Alessandro Udali Collomb said that: «We're having fun jumping from these walls with skies and with friends. It has been at least ten years since the last time that we saw similar [weather] conditions.» Snow reached a height of almost 15 meters (over 49 inches) during the last winter, covering the road entirely. The valley is used to lots of snow but this year's snowfall was extraordinary. The Piccolo San Bernardo alpine pass is also the lowest pass of the western Alps, at only 2,188 meters (around 7,200 feet). Snow plows started digging the snow along the road one month ago but the operations were made difficult by several avalanches. Last week, heavy snowfall began once again in the area.
