Serbia: Vucic meets NYC Rep. Eliot Engel ahead of West Balkans Summit

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with US House Representative for New York City Eliot Engel in Belgrade on Wednesday, one day prior to the Western Balkans Summit. According to reports, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee's visit was aimed at finishing hostilities in the Western Balkans by pushing Belgrade and Pristina into dialogue in order to become EU members. Speaking at a press... Еще conference after the meeting, Vucic referred to the trade ban from Kosovo as an attempt “to make people forget about their connection to their own country, to forget the Serbian language and to understand that they have to reconcile themselves with living in another state and that they have to get used to it at any cost.» The Serbian leader accused Western powers of enabling the restrictions. «For anyone who tries to oppose them [the Albanians] on the field and who they know is ready to defend the freedom of the Serbian people, must be arrested or forever expelled from Kosovo and Metohija. And this is a long-term strategy that is being implemented with the help of some Western powers.» He described the food supply situation in North Kosovo as “uncertain” and accused the Kosovo government of making arrests and shooting the vehicles sent to deliver Serbian goods. «Do you want to eat Serbian biscuits and drink Serbian milk? You cannot. You'll have to get used to the Albanian ones. Otherwise, you will again go to jail or we will shoot at your vans, and then we will ask you to buy goods that you do not want to buy, ”said the Serbian leader. Vucic and Engel already met in February this year during the 55th Munich Security Conference. Engel is seen as a Albanian lobbyist in the US government. The Western Balkans Summit will take place in Poznan, Poland, on the 4th and 5th of July.
