Several thousand people gathered in Belgrade on Thursday to call on the Serbian government to stop from engaging in further negotiations with Kosovo and to reclaim the southern republic. The protest took place on the national Serbian holiday of Vidovdan. Protesters held Russian, Spanish and Serbian flags and brandished posters condemning NATO and the EU. Attendees marched to the Serbian... Еще Government, Presidential building and National Assembly shouting «Kosovo is Serbia» and «Treason» among other chants. Vidovdan (St. Vitus Day — 28th June) commemorates the Great Kosovo battle, fought in 1389 between the Ottoman Empire and the Balkan's Christian lords and kings. The battle is an important part of Serbian ethnic and national identity.
