Russia: World’s first floating nuclear power plant nearing completion

Construction of the world’s first floating nuclear power plant, the Akademik Lomonosov, is nearing completion at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg, as seen in footage from Friday. The power plant is designed to travel to areas inaccessible or difficult to reach by land. Next autumn, the station will arrive in the Arctic port of Pevek where it will be loaded with uranium fuel and connected to... Еще the local power system. Akademik Lomonosov will then replace the Bilibino Nuclear Power station in providing energy for a number of industrial projects in Russia’s remote Chukotka Region by the end of 2019. The Bilibino power plant is the smallest and northernmost plant in the world. Its decommissioning will begin in 2019.
