Russia: World needs 'trade peace' instead of trade wars — Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin called for “a full-fledged trade peace” instead of trade wars, speaking at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde. Lagarde used her speech to warn against protectionist policies... Еще, calling them a «grave mistake». She said, « “It would be a grave mistake to resort to protectionism and unilateralism. This would be a self-inflicted wound. And let us not forget that trade leads to higher productivity, lower prices and improved living standards.» The three-day St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) opened on May 24 in Russia’s second largest city with representatives from over 70 countries. Held annually since 1997, and under the auspices of the Russian president since 2005, SPIEF is a leading business event for the global economic sector. The forum brings together heads of international organizations, well known public figures, leading academics, experts and media.
