We know from those who were there at that time, by asking witnesses, we knew that the alarm was not heard. That is what we know. And only from the people who told us so.” A local Kemerovo boy approached Deputy Governor of the Kemerovo Region Sergei Tsivilev on Tuesday and asked him why his friend Misha had «burned alive» in Sunday's shopping centre inferno. The governor responded that “there were a lot of [safety] violations.” The unnamed boy also asked why the security guard had turned the alarm off, to which Tsivilev responded “it simply didn’t work. We know from those who were there at that time, by asking witnesses, we knew that the alarm was not heard.” At least 64 people, including many children, were killed in the fire, which engulfed the shopping mall in Kemerovo on Sunday. According to the Russian Investigative Committee, the fire escape routes were blocked inside the mall. An investigation into the tragedy is underway. The source of the blaze was on the top floor where several cinema halls and children's playgrounds with attractions were located.
