More than 1500 people participated in a large-scale re-enactment of the Borodino Battle on the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino, a decisive battle of the Patriotic War of 1812, on the Borodino field in Moscow Region, Sunday. Calvary and infantry clanked swords and fired cannons decked out in 19th century military uniforms, reconstructing the famed 1812 battle between Napoleon's army... Еще and Russian troops. The re-enactment took place in the framework of the International Military Historical Festival, dubbed «Borodino Day.» The festival is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of September, with the support of the Russian military-historical society. Guests from all over the world, including Russia, Belarus, Germany, Czech Republic, the UK and France, were invited to take part in the festival. According to the festival organisers, some 500 invitations were sent to foreign guests. Napoleon attacked the Imperial Russian Army, led by General Mikhail Kutuzov, near Borodino on September 7, 1812. The fighting involved around 250,000 troops and lasted for a lengthy 12 hours, leaving 45,000 Russian and some 30,000 French troops dead, thus making it the single deadliest day of the Napoleonic Wars.
